Other impacts arising from the use of non-renewable energy resources (for example on water use, water quality, biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions or other air emissions) are included under those impact categories.

Amount of non-renewable fuels used, by type

Type (see Help & Glossary diagram)

Impact driver

Units

kg/ha or L/ha

Example Target

Benchmark against best practice

Example approach

Estimate from purchase records

Example methods/guidance/data sources/references

Internal records

Notes

Non-renewable energy resources (fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and petroleum products) may be used directly (e.g. diesel for machinery) or indirectly (e.g. via use of electricity from a grid that includes fossil fuel generators). In each case, the objective is to measure the contribution to depletion of stocks of non-renewable energy resources (note that the total stocks of these resources may be accounted separately; see Environmental assets/Mineral and energy resources). Other impacts associated with the use of these fuels, such as greenhouse gas emissions, water use or other air emissions, can be measured under those separate impact categories.
